HOW IT WORKS

Polartec® Power Dry® pulls moisture directly from the skin and transfers it to the outer surface to quickly dissipate. This continuous evaporation process helps to keep you cool (as your body heat increases) and warm (when temperatures begin to drop).

By physically embedding these wicking capabilities into the fabric structure, Polartec® Power Dry® doesn’t rely on chemical fiber treatments to transfer moisture. Chemical approaches to managing saturation only provide a temporary solution that can wash away and leave you with a base fabric that doesn't perform.

As the next-to-skin layer, a base layer moves perspiration away from your body, also known as "moisture wicking". You need to keep your skin dry in cold conditions to avoid becoming chilled, or even hypothermic.  In warmer weather, they keep you dry for comfort. Base layers should be snug, so stretch fabrics are important.

We offer the best moisture-wicking fabrics, both Polartec® Power Dry® as well as Polartec® Power Wool®

Polartec® Power Dry® was created to give base fabrics greater efficiency, more dependable wicking properties, faster dry times and better overall performance. Not all base fabrics are created equal, and many can only provide temporary wicking chemistry that fades and weakens with every wash. By designing mechanical wicking fabric with  patented bi-component construction we offer a superior base material that pulls moisture from the skin, expands for faster evaporation and lasts the life of the fabric.

This remarkable next-to-skin fabric has a smooth face and fuzzy waffle squares on the inside.  It makes great long underwear and some manufacturers use it for shirts.

This is what Polartec® says about High Efficiency Power Dry® (now know as Power Grid):

Polartec® Delta                                          The "Cooling" Fabric

Polartec® Delta™ was created so cooling fabric technologies can better utilize the body’s natural cooling process — sweat. Next-to-skin fabrics that target wicking and drying only keep moisture vapor moving, and don’t work to actually solve overheating. Delta works harder and smarter by elevating yarns for increased airflow, optimizing moisture dispersal, and reducing friction against the skin.

Benefits:

  • Cool Touch
  • Superior wicking action
  • Highly breathable
  • Reduced skin cling
  • Regulated drying
  • Odor control

MITI Dri-Tech Stretch 'Nailhead'

Manufactured by MITI, this fabric is part of their POWER line of warp-proof, technical fabrics that follow the body's movements during exercise but don't loose their shape. A highly snag and abrasion resistant, very wicking, 4-way stretch lycra with a brushed inner surface.  The outerface has micro dots, giving it the nailhead design.  Fabric is 86% polyester / 14% lycra and is 64" wide. In our test, the wicking ability of the fabric is amazing.  A small drop of water instantly spread across the fabric.  If you are looking for a layer that's comfortable against your skin and gives just a little added warmth on days when a t-shirt isn't enough, this is a great fabric.

Tactel®

This is a substantial Tactel/Lycra blend in an appealing natural colour.  Tactel is a propriety nylon developed by INVISTA to be as soft as cotton but offering many technical benefits.  These include: drying eight times faster than cotton, being lightweight, strong, breathable, and three times as resilient as comparable natural fibers.  This particular fabric won't provide enough coverage for complete leggings, but could be used as an accent panel. Many of our Facegroup Sewing Group suggested uses such as: lining the inside of a waistband as 'control top', anti-chafe hot pants/shorts in summer time, camisoles or tank tops, base layers in general, or even as a neutral coloured zip warm-up jacket.  Four-way stretch with about 75% in both directions

88% Tactel    12% Lycra, 60" wide
